Canton Development Fund
How the Fund Works
The Canton Development Fund allocates 5% of network emissions to fund ecosystem work. Grants follow a transparent, on-chain-adjacent lifecycle ratified via GitVote.
Grant lifecycle
Submit a proposal
Community members open a PR against the grants board with a detailed proposal covering scope, milestones, and funding ask. Canton Development Fund repository
SIG review
A Special Interest Group reviews the proposal, requests revisions, and — once satisfied — assigns a champion organisation that co-signs accountability. CIP-0100 — Governance & review process
GitVote ratification
Ready proposals go to an on-chain GitVote ballot. The approval threshold and ballot duration are defined in the live GitVote config. GitVote configuration (.gitvote.yml)
Milestone disbursement
Approved grants are paid out per milestone. Each disbursement is triggered by a delivered-and-accepted milestone review on the board. CIP-0100 — Governance & review process
