Abstract
Daml has no storable integer type wider than Numeric, which holds 38 digits, so amounts and intermediate results from 256-bit applications cannot be stored or computed. Walnut will add U256 to the Daml compiler, Daml-LF, the Canton runtime, and the Ledger API, starting with a design note on [Daml#22827](https://github.com/digital-asset/daml/issues/22827) and ending in a stable Daml-LF release. Acceptance includes independent adoption, followed by quarterly maintenance reports.
